German Propylene Pipeline

Construction has begun on the long-awaited German propylene pipeline from Moers to Gelsenkirchen, with start-up slated for 2009. The 60-km connection initiating in Duisburg harbour will link petrochemicals and plastics producers in the Ruhr area. Project costs are EUR 45m for the pipeline and EUR 15m for the Duisburg terminal. Two-thirds of the bill is being footed by the state government, the remainder by major users, including Sabic Europe and the chemical park at Marl. A later extension to the Cologne area is not being ruled out. /Plastics Information Europe/
