Delphi: PPO Reduces Auto Harness Weight

A new thin-wall coating that will help cut the weight of automotive cable harnesses by up to 40% was unveiled at the internation automobile exhibition (IAA) held in Frankfurt / Germany in September. Toyota´s "Tundra" model is the first new vehicle to be fitted with a cable harness from Delphi (Troy, Michigan / USA; www.delphi.com), in which the wires are insulated with a flexible "Noryl" (PPO) resin. The thickness of the insulation has dropped from 0.4 to 0.2 mm, reducing harness weight by 25% and volume by 28%. /Plastics Information Europe/
